My Dearest and Most Cherished Friend,
Pray accept my warmest wishes and hopes that this letter finds you in the very best of health and spirits. The past weeks have stretched on most tediously in your absence, and I confess I have felt the want of your delightful company most keenly.
My days have passed in quiet industry, seated beside Mama in the drawing room, my needlework my constant companion. In the evenings, I have sought diversion in the most engaging novels of that newly celebrated lady author. Tell me, have you yet acquainted yourself with Sense and Sensibility? I found it exceedingly diverting and await her next work with the utmost impatience. Only the other day, whilst wandering the grounds of our Derbyshire estate, I indulged in the fanciful notion of myself as Marianne Dashwood, to be spirited away by a gentleman as dashing as Mr. Willoughby—such charming nonsense, yet how pleasant to imagine!
As the London Season approaches, my heart lifts with anticipation, though nothing could delight me more than the prospect of seeing you once again. Mama is already deep in preparations for a grand ball to mark my first Season, and she is determined that it shall be a most splendid affair. Our home at Windamere is to be adorned with the loveliest blooms, and filled with music, dancing, and every refinement befitting such an occasion. I can scarcely contain my excitement at the thought of all our acquaintances assembled in their finest attire.
You must not, I entreat you, deny your devoted friend the happiness of your presence. Pray join us in our ballroom, for the evening would be rendered quite incomplete without you. There is even the most delightful whisper that Her Majesty herself may grace us with her presence—though I scarcely dare believe it!
I remain, with the sincerest affection and highest regard,
Your Most Devoted Friend,
Who Aspires to Be the Diamond of the Season
